From todays Sydney Sunday Telegraph: Australian rockers INXS have given up on searching for a lead singer to replace Michael Hutchence heading into their first live performance in two years. After a procession of stand-ins including JD fortune, Jon Stevens and even Terrance Trent Darby, the band is teaming up with the Qantas choir instead. The band will play its classic 1983 hit, Don't Change, at the Pride of Australia Awards, and initiative of News Limited newspapers, including the Sunday Telegraph, on November 30. "This is really the first thing we've done without a so-called lead singer," said the bands Kirk Pengilly last week. "I think it's a fun way and a powerful way, to have the first thing we do like this." INXS's original members have spent most of the past 18 months recording a new album in secret. {the article then goes on to mention all of the artists we already know are performing on the album} "We've still got a few tracks to get up to scratch and finish, but it will be next year," Pengilly said. To watch the Pride of australia awards, where INXS will perform log on to www.prideofaustralia.com.au on Nov 30 at 8pm Aus eastern daylight saving time. The article is accompanied by a pic of Andrew, Jon and Kirk surrounded by members of the choir. They have accidently called Andrew Tim.
Kirk is more than a bit forgettful. They did the Tim Rice Musical Spectacular without a lead singer back in either '99 or 2000.
