I agree Michael could have and should have got far even without INXS, eventually. Incidentally, Does anyone else remember Greg Young's academic essay where he looks at Australian males in rock music and Michael and INXS are one of his many examples? I recall Young made a claim along the lines of INXS' fame being thanks to Michael's sexuality and him being the star at the front of the band. Once they resorted back to being a bunch of mates without anyone shining above the others, image-wise, their fame started to deteriorate. Well, something to that effect it was. He used Kick and Full Moon Dirty Hearts (album covers) as examples. I seem to recall Need You Tonight, or its video, was used also. The article (with a long title with Slide Over Here and more in it, LOL!) appeared in an academic music publication called Popular Music. It was/is available in university libraries at least. I fondly remember that periodical for it's interesting U2 articles too. Anyway, I remember being quite thrilled at Michael getting positive attention in an academic publication. Also, just the other night I watched some hilarious clips from the movie Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on YouTube and couldn't help but think how brilliant Michael would have been in it! Now it's a great movie, with Michael it would have been magnificent. He should have gone against (Chris Murphy's?) advice and taken the role!

That sounds really interesting Katri. I'd love to be able to read that.
There are a few films where I can picutre Michael in certain roles. Didn't he have to turn down that role because of previous commitments with INXS?
Oh, and Quentin Tarantino was on American Idol last night and I couldn't help thinking about the role he was considering Michael for. I mean, look what Tarantino did for Travolta? Who know's where Michael would have gone in film after working with Tarantino? Of course we'd have to burn EVERY COPY of Limp! LOL!

So the story goes Angela, that he did have to turn it down to to previous commitments. I tried to imagine Michael in that role when I watched it.
What role was QT considering for Michael?? (Please remember, although I've been a long time fan, I've only just recently crawled out from under a rock - that with my memory lapses...).

No worries, Helen, I don't think any of us knew what Tarantino had in mind for Michael exactly! But the fact remains that Michael was excited was a good thing. ( wish I knew what it was was though too! )

Michael had told Paula in the Big Breakfast interview that he had auditioned for Tick/Mitzi (Hugo Weaving's) role , but Tina said here on this board that it was Adam/Felicia (Guy Pierce's ) role he was up for . Well, he probably could have done either! Great , fun movie. And I loved Terrance Stamp too! My hubby likes this movie too. Wonder if he would ever have watched it if Michael was in it? Probably not. LOL!

When I'm watching Priscilla, I too am imagining Michael in it! ;D Originally I pictured him in place of Guy Pierce, due to what Tina told us, but when I saw the Big Breakfast clip where Michael said it would have been Weaving's role... I don't know which one it was but I now alternate seeing Michael as both! Of course, the leading role would have been even better. I'm convinced Michael could have pulled off either role just fine! Though Hugo Weaving is great, I'm sure Michael would have been even better (of course, I'm not biased at all!).

I did some googling and actually found this in Just a Man (chapter 12). Sorry, no page number as I just followed the link and forgot to take it up this time.
Martha called from New York and told him that Quentin Tarantino did not want him for the original small role he had tried out for in his new movie 'From Dusk Till Dawn' but had something much better in mind.
So, it seems Michael would have got to some play other role in a Tarantino movie later on. Sadly, we will never know now... I'm not a great fan of Tarantino's work by a long shot but had Michael been in his movie(s), I'd check them out just because of his involvement.

That sounds really interesting Katri. I'd love to be able to read that. I found an abstract for the article just now. I'll put it here. I think I've the whole article somewhere too... On second thought, I'll put it in articles as we've strayed a long way from JD being fired from INXS.

Thanks Katri.
I can just imagine Michael in a Tarantino film. His characters are so smooth and cool...perfect for Michael.

I imagined Michael in Guy Pearce's role. I would like to know which role he really was gonna play now, he could have pulled them both off for sure. I would have loved to have watched him in anything...even Playschool.
Speaking of movies...does anyone know where I can get a copy of Frankenstein Unbound? I haven't seen that either! Searched in vain here, nowhere to be found.

I'll see if it lets me transfer it to DVD. ( some of them don't). In the meantime, here's a clip from it www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7aErBsn5dE

Thank you Cathy...
Laurie you are such a tease and a sweet heart. I'd rather you put the dvd for auction so that we're one step closer to achieving this dream on Michael's behalf. He deserves the recognition.
