If INXS are back with Chris Murphy, then I think that is the smartest move they have made in a long time. They had great chemistry with him, and he looked out for their interests better than anyone else has. I agree with you there Hutchbabe. Chris Murphy was there from the beginning, he knows them inside out, and knows what works. Still would like a statement from the actual band as to where JD stands with them. Is he definately in or out? I dont understand why everyone is beating around the bush , as it were. Aussie

Here's another story, which is mainly another rehash of Chris Murphy's already widely publicized statement. I've underlined the part, which I don't think was earlier reported anywhere. Not in so many words or so that I would have seen it anyway (other than mentions of the big recording project he alluded to). This should be exciting news for all who wish INXS to continue. INXS reunite with manager Chris Murphy The real story behind the whole INXS / JD Fortune public slanging ("they sacked me, boo hoo/ No we didn't, hissss!") was the news that INXS have reunited with manager Chris Murphy. INXS parted ways with Murphy after Michael Hutchence's death, and went through at least four other managers. In the meantime, Murphy — who engineered their rise to international acclaim in the '80s — went on to run radio stations and then set up Petrol Records to tap into the huge world music market. It seems that INXS signed with Petrol last December. Murphy's back involved in their affairs again, but now under the title of Creative Director and Global Business Strategist. It was he who this week responded, on behalf of the band, to former singer JD Fortune's claims on Canadian television that he had been sacked by INXS at Hong Kong airport — and that he was now homeless and living in his ute. INXS discovered Fortune through their reality TV series and made a low-selling album through Sony which they followed up with a world tour which visited Australia. Fortune did admit he had developed a cocaine habit during his time with them. Murphy's media statement went, in part.: "Not only are we shocked by the claims, even the place the supposed incident was to have taken place is a mystery to the band. What annoys me most after viewing Fortunes interview, is the bloody slant he makes towards the founding band members. These guys are the nicest people on this planet, they are not the people he portrays." In fact Murphy says, INXS were considering asking Fortune to team up again when they went back on the road. "In fact he was next on my list to call regarding a very big recording project I am putting together for INXS at present. I guess I have no reason to call him now!" The statement concluded, "Andrew Farriss, Jon Farriss, Tim Farriss, Kirk Pengily and Garry Beers are all in lock down preparing for what is rumored to be the most exciting recording project since (the) 'Kick' album."www.themusic.com.au/imm.php?s=christie(You'll need to scroll down a bit to find this.) (Edited to add said underlining! LOL!)

So this album is what Matt is on about at inxs.com I assume. Wow will be interesting to finally find out what this is and who is on it.
Oh btw I heard today that JD is in Credit Card Debt of over $72,000 assume canadian dollars. So if he is living in the car, why doesnt he sell that , pay off his debt and move back in with his mum? Seems he lived the rockstar lifestyle and blew his money . I must add I have not read this re the above, just heard it from someone else.

Gotta admit he is doing his best to market the new album. Yes he is. And its sad that its all business. Where is his love for Michael's memory making a comment like that? I just don't get it. Martha, after getting Michael's last desperate calls , and then managing JD, and now Chris Murphy back with comments like that?? Where is the love within these people thats oftened talked about? Perhaps they had personal relationships, but at the end of the day it seems it was all about business.

I wonder if he really felt like he had anyone to turn to or if he thought of himself as a commodity.

I'm having a lot of sad moments in the past few days. I had a physical setback so I have been confined to bed, which of course means I am watching all of my Michael DVDs over again. Watching Behind the Music, E! True Hollywood Story and The Loved One back to back is not something I recommend. You seriously get the feel of how he was surrounded by leeches, with very few people there for him. With Martha boo-hooing it up about Michael on one, and being sort of glib on another. And then she represents JD? Don't know....it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
I do want INXS to do well, if for no other reason than I think Michael would have wanted that. I do think they need to go about it in a better way then Rockstar, and it sounds as if they are. I don't know why everything is so secretive. They need to come out and explain why JD was let go.

As for INXS explaining...they will.

This is a piece of "new" news regarding JD's situation. I don't think it's really new information at all but the media perhaps hasn't picked up on it very well. Sacking makes better headlines. Bolded bits by me. Comments below. JD Fortune Was Out Of INXS Long Ago by Paul Cashmere - February 27 2009 The news of the sacking of the JD Fortune by INXS may not be simple as it seems. According to what Undercover is hearing, JD was only on a contract with the band for one album and one tour.Fortune joined INXS after winning the reality TV show Rock Star: INXS. Undercover has learned according to the terms of the contract, the prize entailed recording one album and then touring the album with the band.Fortune’s fortune changed at the end of the tour. He claims the band sacked him at Hong Kong airport. But according to our information, under the terms of the prize, his contract had expired when the tour ended meaning JD was out of INXS at the end of the tour anyway unless a new contract was renegotiated.Technically, JD Fortune could not have been sacked by INXS as both sides fulfilled the terms of the agreement. That is not to say that Fortune’s expectations wasn’t for a future with the band. After the last tour, the singer started work on a solo album. The result is ‘The Death of a Motivation Speaker’ which Fortune is shopping for distribution right now. In a statement this week, former manager Chris Murphy resurfaced as “INXS Creative Director and Global Business Strategist”. The statement read, “Ever since Petrol Records signed INXS last December, the band has always stated to me that Fortune’s services could potentially be contracted again when INXS next tour. In fact he was next on my list to call regarding a very big recording project I am putting together for INXS at present. I guess I have no reason to call him now!” Reading between the lines, the statement was actually an announcement that Murphy, who himself was removed from the management of the band in the mid-90s and replaced by Martha Troop, was back working with INXS. The press release made the bold statement that, “Andrew Farriss, Jon Farriss, Tim Farriss, Kirk Pengilly and Garry Beers are all in lock down preparing for what is rumoured to be the most exciting recording project since KICK”. 'Kick’ was INXS’ biggest album worldwide. It sold more than 10 million units in the USA alone and spawned the hits ‘Need You Tonight’, ‘Devil Inside’, ‘New Sensation’ and ‘Never Tear Us Apart’. An announcement that the band is going to kick ‘Kick’ is indeed a bold statement.Undercover did request additional information about the wording on the Chris Murphy press release this week but it was not forthcoming. undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=7719Now onto my comments: -- Why is it suddenly news that JD was on contract for one album and tour? I thought it was common knowledge. Of course, it appears the band has led some fans to believe JD was for keeps (their bad) but the bottom line is, they all fulfilled the original contract as the above piece states. Legally all's hunky dory, what fans think is another story. -- I don't think you need to read between the lines to figure out that Murphy is back on the wagon (given you know Petrol Records is Murphy's label -- and didn't it say so right there in the news coverage?). -- The commentary on another album of Kick's calibre is spot on, obviously!

Most exciting since Kick???!!!! Oh c'mon now!!! I think I just gagged a little. Yeah that makes two of us! LOL Kick was commercially a great cd, but it was one of those rare occasions where everything was in perfect alignment...perfect band, perfect cd, at the perfect moment in time. It was a once in a lifetime thing and most bands never achieve it once...let alone again. Lightning just doesnt strike that often.
