Deb,
I wasn't surprised because to me Rockstar just stunk of a stunt for some quick cash. They didn't seem really motivated to create great music and used the quickest method with the most commercial bang (ie; getting someone who would love 15 minutes of fame) It never seemed to be a legitimate desire to create good music, just a means of cashing in.
Personally, I wish them all well but am sort of happy that the whole thing is over.
I am curious to know who's singing on this new INXS album in the works if it's not JD>

Debbie, I wasn't really surprised by this as I, too, never was a fan of Rockstar and the process of finding a singer via a reality TV show was so dodgy. Personally I never felt JD was a good match for INXS. Then again, no one is good enough to take Michael's place in my opinion, so I'm terribly biased here. ;D Also, there was the 'catch': the deal was for one album and one tour and the winner JD got just what he was promised (and apparently nothing more). So, INXS always had the opportunity to let their new singer go after the contract was fulfilled if things didn't work out for whatever reason, though I think they were also hoping for a more permanent singer (given how they embraced JD as their new brother). Of course, JD too knew what he was getting into: he was getting a contract for one album and tour, not necessarily anything more. Interestingly, I remember JD gave as a reason for his drug use the fact that he knew it would all end soon. Another source (reliable or not) suggested that his drug use might have been the reason INXS let him go. Of course, there was the age difference too. Whatever the real reason, in a way this possible outcome was already written in the 'script' from day one. On the whole I see reality TV as a very unreliable method of finding a mate of any kind (think of the Bachelor(ette) series for instance). Success stories can happen but reality TV creates by nature a somewhat forced relationship, which is likely not going to last in the long run. I'm hoping to see a statement from INXS soon as well. They owe it to their fans and JD's fans too. Unfortunately they are going to lose JD's personal fans now, so it may be hard for them to pick up the pieces and move on. Hopefully they'll manage it though.

No word from the band yet as to what is going on , perhaps in the next few days. Aus According to Matt on Switchboard, it was reported on an Aussie TV channel that INXS would announce their plans in the coming weeks. Why on earth do they wait? Wouldn't it be better to issue a statement concerning JD now? Especially for the sake of their current fans. Their future plans can of course be announced at a later date. It seems this is a bad blow on their credibility. Who will take them seriously if they stall? One would imagine letting go of a lead singer (albeit a reality TV find) would warrant a quicker response. Especially after the whole deal came out like it did. Well, it's their career. They should know what they are doing, right?

I seem to be hogging this thread now but never mind. Here goes the first speculation I've seen online about INXS' future. They suggest INXS might call it quits after 22 years. I don't know how they came up with that number of years... According to a spokeswoman they've found INXS should be issuing a statement in a couple of weeks. We'll see what actually happens... www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,25079157-5012327,00.html

Thank you for your replies as to why you weren't surprised by this. I was just interested to hear peoples opinions as to why. Yes, i thought this would happen eventually but not yet. I also agree that the whole thing was just for money/publicity and not about making good music. I was surprised though when i read an article on this subject today which said.. "Fortune (real name Jason Bennison), a native of Mississauga, Ont. who was raised in Pictou County, N.S., says he was fired from his job fronting INXS without warning over a year ago and is now living out of the back of a pickup truck." Over a year ago? Also he's saying he has been drug free for 2 years and he's had the time to get his act together on that score and create a solo album so it's obviously old news. In which case fair play to him for not going straight to the press when he was first fired. As for INXS, i can't believe they haven't found it necessary to inform their fans for a year that JD is no longer with them. All we are hearing is that they will make a statement soon. They are only doing that now because JD has revealed what's going on and people are asking questions. I just cannot understand all the silence and secrecy, what's the point?Unless they feel they might get critizised for the way they have treated JD? Well i suppose we will just have to wait and see who the next frontman is for the new album?? Deb

Katri, you are hardly hogging this tread and I totally agree with everything you have said about the show. Yes, they called him a brother.... but it was a reality show for goodness sake! It's not the same when you meet someone in real life and bond to form a true chemistry, not on a tv show. They were doomed to not last from the start. I think they all may have known that. We all need $ in order to live

I think JD is milking it a bit. His contract was for an album and a tour. That's it. My guess is that they decided not to renew his contract.
I think he's playing the "I was fired by INXS" angle to garner some attention for his solo project.
Whatever the case... Thank god that's over!!! ( I don't mean that to insult everyone but it personally made me unhappy. Sorry.)
Maybe if there was a way this period in INXS history could be forgotten, they may still have a chance to get into the R&R Hall of Fame.

JD was the ultimate bullsh*tter on Rockstar, and I doubt much has changed. I always wondered why INXS picked the most mentally unstable person of the group.....their coice seems to be coming back to bite them in the arse. Hey....do you think that when they fired him, Tim told him....."JD, you're just not roight our band INXS."

It's not that terrible... goggles! I'm sure they all new what they were getting into. Those guys all have families and probably just want to provide more for them. I'm sure. I bet they were genuinely excited to tour again and make a record. What are they supposed to do? Never make music together again? Put yourself in their shoes. I don't think they raped Michael's legacy, if anything, they helped create it, silly! For a fact Michael never would have been as successful as he was without the rest of those guys!
But, I know you are still entitled to your own opinion.

Yes, we are indeed entitled to our own opinions! And I tend to undersatand where goggles is coming from. The band has made so many questionable decisions since Michael died, which threatend their credibility, and his legacy. I just hope that all this new drama can be quickly forgotten , and with the new Michael stuff coming out, people will remember the original band for what it was!

Well over 80% of people in the Daily Telegraph poll know the deal. Michael is first, last and forever. The rest of the band........

They suggest INXS might call it quits after 22 years. 22 for some reason is associated with Michael in many ways! After reading all your posts......I hope I word this right. INXS were my favourite above all bands. It never mattered to me who else I became or still do become interested in, they are still my favourite. I, like Lesley, grew up with them and of course adored Michael. I still do....immensely. I was not a fan of Rockstar, I got excited when they said INXS were going to make a come back till my blonde thoughts caught up with me and I realised it wouldn't be with Michael out front. I have seen the band with Lesley and I do agree that JD should have made a better choice of perhaps keeping the joints out the back as there were children up front. And I too just loved being able to soak up the atmosphere of excitement and sing along to all their songs again. I missed out on seeing Michael perform live, and I regret that so much. I can only imagine what it would have been like with him out there. As for the band missing Michael. Yes, they do, a great deal. Lesley and I spoke to them about that and I spoke to them about things most wouldn't, and yes they do miss him terribly. A lot of fans said back then that they should have a tribute out front for Michael, and I agreed but heard that had happened a few years ago. So a lot of us said they didn't care about Michael. They care. All you need do is speak to them, mention Michael's name and watch their faces. I know a lot of you won't agree with me, I'm just telling you how I see it. As for JD trying to numb what he knew was coming. We all have that ability to know what's up ahead for us and I guess he did know. It would be so difficult in that situation, knowing that one day its probably going to end. I wish him well, whatever happens. As Lesley has asked, please be aware that there are those on here who do love the band as they are now as well as those who prefer them as they were. Please respect others feelings. We have all been brought here because of our love for Michael. For me, that love extends to his family, friends and band members. It always will. Love you Michael! H xx
